It's easy to go green

When you drive an electric vehicle, you not only save on gas, but you give back to the planet with every kilometer. With so many electric vehicles available, there’s one that’s meant for you. We know taking that first step can be overwhelming, which is why we’re here to help you better understand electric vehicles and the ways they can elevate the way you experience travel. Scroll on to get started.

HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (HEV)HEV stands for a hybrid electric vehicle. The components of an HEV include an electric motor, an internal combustion engine (ICE, also known as a gasoline engine), and a battery. To generate power, the electric motor derives energy through a combination of regenerative braking and fossil fuels. HEVs have a better return on fuel during city driving and while in stop-and-go traffic in comparison to standard gasoline or diesel vehicle. HEVs cannot be plugged into an electricity source and are fueled at standard gas stations.

PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (PHEV)PHEV stands for a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Like an EV, a PHEV can obtain power from regenerative braking, regular electrical outlets or from an electric vehicle charging station. In a Kia PHEV, you have either the option of full EV mode for zero-emission driving or as an HEV where the gasoline engine is the main source of power supplemented by the battery & electric motor for longer range needs.

BATTERY ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV)BEV stands for battery electric vehicles, also known simply as an electric vehicle (EV) that runs on 100% battery power. This type of vehicle derives all its power from plugging into a power source to generate movement. An EV does not have an internal combustion engine, meaning it doesn’t produce tailpipe emissions. No ICE means lower maintenance costs in comparison to traditional vehicles. With charging stations located across the country, your EV can be “fast charged”, keeping your travel capabilities limitless.

Choosing an electric vehicle is made easier with federal and provincial incentives. Discover how much you can save in your region.

  • Electric vehicles (EVs) are eligible for up to $5,000 in federal incentives^.
  • Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are eligible for up to $2,500^.
  • The Kia models eligible for the federal incentive are the Niro PHEV, Niro EV, and Soul EV. For more information click here.
