What Your Alternator Does and When to Have It Serviced

An essential piece of equipment, the alternator is what recycles the power your battery uses when you drive. It's an important part because it restores energy that's lost as power is supplied to run your engine and control things like your car's climate, entertainment and tech features, and other systems that need sufficient power to work right.
Other than a warning light that says "ALT" or "GEN," signs of possible alternator problem include dim headlights or dashboard lights and a burning rubber smell from excess friction if belts don't turn freely due to lack of power. Issues with your electrical system and odd grinding or whining noises could also suggest your alternator needs attention.
If you're noticing signs of an alternator problem, bring your vehicle to the service center at South Trail Kia. Our technicians will thoroughly inspect it along with your vehicle's battery and wiring to pinpoint the problem.
