The Kia Sorento has seen strong sales figures from the the moment it was launched in 2002. In the years since then, the lineup has been continuously developed and improved, and was last given a major overhaul in 2019 to take it into its third generation.
With a new update just released, what are the main features of the 2020 Kia Sorento to watch out for?
There are two powertrain configurations to choose from with the 2020 Sorento.
The first option is aimed at daily driving, providing a good balance between power and economy. It features a 2.4L, 4-cylinder engine pushing out a highly respectable 185 horsepower.
This is plenty of juice under normal conditions for a third-row SUV of the Sorento's size and weight. The power is passed through a six-speed automatic transmission to full-time, all-wheel drive.
This configuration offers good fuel economy, with figures of 11.2L / 100km under city conditions and 9L / 100km on the highway.
However, if you want to push your Sorento across tougher terrain, or simply enjoy the feeling of having plenty of power in reserve, the car can be equipped with a more powerful 3.3L V6 engine providing a meaty 290 horsepower.
This configuration sees the transmission upgraded to an eight-speed automatic, again feeding full-time, all-wheel drive.
As you'd expect, fuel economy is a little lower but still creditable at 12.3L / 100km for city driving and 9.5L / 100km highway.
As usual with Kia, there are plenty of safety and driver assistance features to ensure a secure and comfortable drive. Standard highlights include:
However, as you move up the trim levels you can enjoy extra active measures such as blind spot sensor with collision avoidance, forward collision avoidance, lane keeping assist with departure warning, and a full set of cameras to give 360-degree visibility of traffic and conditions.
Kia have a reputation for interiors with a luxury level that rises above the car's price bracket. The 2020 Sorento is no exception. Even the base LX trim offers comfort features like heated bucket seats coupled with a wide array of power mirrors, windows, and locks.
Standard entertainment features include a 7" touchscreen on the console, coupled with dual first row LCDs for rear passengers. Connectivity is well provided for, with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto all featured as standard.
The generous space inside the cabin can be configured to seat seven adults in comfort, or to provide up to 2,082 litres of cargo space, making the Sorento a versatile SUV in everyday life.
The 2020 Sorento is available in six trim configurations. The base level LX has a manufacturer's suggest price of $30,995, while the top-level SX V6 is priced at an affordable $46,245.
