When tires are underinflated, they're more likely to wear unevenly because the weight of the car will be on the outer walls. This can cause blowouts, and your vehicle will be less able to absorb the impact when you hit a pothole. This can cause damage to your suspension. Overinflated tires aren't desirable either. When there's too much air in the tires, only a thin part of the tire is bearing the weight, so your tires wear unevenly then too.
