2021 Kia Stinger available in Calgary
The Kia Stinger is a car that's built to challenge these preconceptions, and represents a major departure for the South Korean company. First launched in 2017, the latest 2021 version is now available at our Calgary dealer location. What can you expect from this highly desirable 'gran turismo' car?
As befits a car with an eye on performance, the Stinger is a firmly rear-wheel drive model at heart, although all-wheel drive is available as an added option.
The standard engine is a respectable 2.0L 4-cylinder model creating 255 horsepower and 260lb-ft of torque. While this makes for a satisfying drive under most circumstances, to play with the big boys of Audi and BMW it's not really enough.
Luckily, the Stinger is also available with a mighty 3.3L twin-turbo V6 engine cranking out 365 horsepower and 376lb-ft of torque, placing the car firmly in the performance sedan category.
Official Kia figures put the acceleration of the Stinger at 1-100kmh in as little as 4.9 seconds, and while we haven't done our own time trials, such sprightly performance certainly seems realistic.
Slightly disappointingly, there's no manual gearbox option available, but that's increasingly par for the course. Thankfully, the included Sportmatic 8-speed automatic transmission is a dream to drive, with lightning-quick shifting that can be overridden with paddle shifts mounted beneath the steering wheel.
The standard gear ratios can also be tweaked through the five available drive modes of eco, smart, comfort, sport, and custom.

All models of the Stinger are equipped with at least a 7" infotainment touchscreen, with higher trims pushing the size up to 8". Navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are installed across the range, along with Bluetooth, satellite radio, HD radio, and MP3 playback.
The infotainment system itself is powered by Kia's respected UVO software, which is intuitive to use and provides easy access to features without getting in the way.
As standard, the Stinger features a suite of safety and driver assist features including cross-traffic alerts, blind spot monitor, braking assist, and a rear parking aid.
Moving up the trim levels adds extras including lane departure warnings, lane keeping assist, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, and a heads-up display.
For a car of this power, the Stinger is surprisingly affordable. The base level comes in at a starting price of $44,995, while the really meaty GT Unlimited model is available for just $51,995.
