The new model is built on an extended chassis, and the extra dimensions show up in the roomy passenger cabin, with all seven passengers enjoying plenty of space. Unlike some other three-row crossovers, in the Sorento the third row is a genuinely useful seating option rather than a crowded afterthought suitable only for small children.
What's more, comfort levels have been improved throughout the cabin, with touches like leather seats. premium stitching, and ambient door panel lighting coming together to create an upscale feel.
As standard, the Sorento has a 2.5L inline-four gas engine which produces 191 horsepower. However, it's possible to upgrade to a 2.5L turbocharged mill pumping out 277hp, a generous amount of output for a SUV of this size. The power is passed to either front-wheel or all-wheel drive through a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission.
There's also a planned hybrid Sorento in the pipeline, which will couple a 1.6L turbo gas engine with an electric motor to produce a total of 227 horsepower, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive only.
The interior also bears the fruits of the redesign, boasting both a 12.3" digital gauge cluster in the centre of the dashboard and 10.3" touchscreen to handle infotainment duties. Smartphone integration is provided by Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, with a Wi-Fi hotspot facility and USB ports on every row. And to complete the tech feature list, there's also a wireless charging facility for when those multiple USB connections aren't quite enough.
