Minivans offer a great solution for larger families when even the most spacious three-row SUVs don't measure up to the task. The Kia Sedona is a longstanding best seller in the thriving Canadian passenger van market and is now in its third generation after over a decade of improvement and refinement.

Does the 2021 version of the Sedona meet the high standards set by its lineup predecessors? Read our review to find out.
Minivans aren't necessarily known for their impressive looks, but the Sedona is a cut above the average example of the breed. The prominent front grille and clean, sweeping lines are closer to an SUV design than a typical transport van, and this makes the Sedona a refreshing change in what can be a fairly uninspiring market segment.

People buy minivans for one main reason: their capacity for passengers and cargo. The Sedona doesn't disappoint in this area. Seating up to eight people in comfort, both the second and third rows can be folded down to give a maximum cargo space of up to 4,020 litres. If the interior cargo space isn't enough, plenty more can be hauled along behind thanks to the impressive towing capacity of up to 1,587kg.
A vehicle of this size needs a lot of power under the hood, and the 2021 Kia Sedona delivers it in spades. All models are equipped with a 3.3L V6 engine pushing out 276 horsepower and 248lb-ft of torque, with a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission passing the output to the front-wheel drive.
But this generous output doesn't mean the Sedona is a thirsty gas guzzler. Fuel economy figures of 13L / 100km in the city and 9.8L / 100km on the highway are more than respectable for a van of this size, even if they aren't quite market-leading.
The base trim of the Sedona is equipped with a 7" touchscreen, complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while higher-end trims upgrade this to an 8" screen with inbuilt navigation. The higher SX trim also adds a second-row entertainment system, invaluable for long and fractious family journeys.
As standard, the multimedia features are hooked up to a six-speaker sound system, which can be upgraded to a premium eight-speaker Harmon Kardon rig.
In crash tests conducted by the NHTSA, the 2021 Sedona received a top-ranking five out of five stars, but the physical robustness is backed up by an extensive suite of active safety features. Standard and available highlights include:
The entry-level LX trim has a starting price of $32,295, rising to just $42,795 for the top-end SX Tech trim.
