However, the company's best-selling vehicle is actually the Forte, standing out from the crowd with its traditional sedan format while still retaining the Kia trademarks of quality and value.
Now into its fourth generation, the model has recently been refreshed and upgraded to make it better than ever. What does the 2021 Kia Forte for sale at our Calgary location offer to Canadian buyers?
As standard, the 2021 Forte is fitted with a 2.0L inline-four engine producing a healthy 147 horsepower and 132lb-ft of torque. The power is passed to front-wheel drive through a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
This configuration performs well in its intended role as a comfortable and efficient car for everyday driving duties, offering enough power to be responsive but not at the cost of high fuel consumption.
But if you're looking for a little more aggression under the hood, the GT trim features an improved 1.6L turbo engine cranking out 201 horsepower and 195lb-ft of torque for significantly quicker acceleration and a more responsive drive.
Again, this model is front-wheel drive only, but there's a different choice of transmission available, with a six-speed manual gearbox offered alongside a seven-speed dual clutch automatic.
The combination of the 2.0L engine and automatic transmission produces some great fuel economy figures for the 2021 Forte, with an estimated 5.7L / 100km for highway driving and 7.6L / 100km in the city.
As you'd expect, the GT's thirstier engine isn't quite as efficient, but still delivers economical figures of 6.7L / 100km on the highway and 8.7L / 100km in the city, which is very respectable considering the extra oomph under the hood.
Providing great interior tech is a tradition for Kia, and the Forte doesn't disappoint. Standard across the range is an 8" infotainment touchscreen with Bluetooth streaming, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
There's also a second screen embedded into the instrument cluster providing a range of vital driving information. This second screen is a full colour 4.25" design in all Forte models except the entry level, which downgrades to a simpler 3.5" black and white configuration.
Standard active safety features across the Forte range include lane keeping assist with departure warnings, along with forward collision detection and emergency braking mitigation. Optional upgrades can add blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control, and more.
If you're looking for a high-quality new sedan at an affordable price, the Forte makes an excellent choice, available starting at just $17,895 for the LX trim with manual transmission. The automatic version of the LX comes in at $19,495, while the powerful GT model starts at only $26,595.
